Championship leaders confident ahead of Toyota 1000 Desert Race

A great start to the new season sees the privateer Barden Tyre Services Racing team of Thomas Rundle and Juan Mohr leading the Absa Off Road Car Championship as the competition reaches its halfway point with the Toyota 1000 Desert Race in Botswana this weekend.

RFS team seeks repeat of Toyota Desert Race success
The Pretoria-based Retirement Fund Solutions off road racing team of Hannes Grobler/Hennie ter Stege and Christiaan du Plooy/Henk Janse van Vuuren travels the long road to Gaborone in Botswana this week to take on the three-day marathon challenge that is the annual Toyota 1000 Desert Race, round four of the Absa South African Off Road Car Championship.

Rundle and Mohr retain their lead in the Absa Off Road Championship
A gutsy performance in Saturday’s Atlas Copco Battlefields 400 in KwaZulu-Natal saw Thomas Rundle and Juan Mohr (Barden Tyre Services Racing Nissan Navara) finish a fighting fifth among the Super Production vehicles and retain their overall lead in the championship after three rounds.

It is a curious fact that seldom does a team that wears the colours of the event sponsor succeed in winning the event.
So it was again in the Atlas Copco 400, third round of the Absa Off Road Car Championship, which was run in the Dundee area of KwaZulu-Natal for the first time this past weekend.

Pietermaritzburg teenager continues to dominate motocross
Pietermaritzburg teenager Dirco van der Westhuizen continues to dominate the MX85cc category of the Full Throttle national motocross championship. There just seems to be no stopping the 12-year-old Gert Maritz Primary School pupil, who is unbeaten so far this year.
   
EASTERN CAPE’S LIQUORLAND ROVER ENDURO TO BE A TOUGH TEST
All eyes might be on the Kiwi, Chris Birch (Comsol Alfie Cox Racing KTM) at the Liquorland Rover Enduro, the third round of the Liquorland SA National Enduro Motorcycle Championship that will take place on 14 May in the Humansdorp area in the Eastern Cape, but the attention will also be on some of SA’s top enduro riders who will give the double race winner this season a run for his money.

YOUNG OFF-ROAD COMPETITORS SHOW DETERMINATION AT CREODATA JUNIOR NATIONAL
The young motorcycle and quad riders who competed in the Creodata Junior National, the third round of the 2011 Junior National Off-road Championship this weekend (7 May) in Gauteng, showed sheer determination and strength of character to complete the race despite set-backs and gruelling weather conditions.
