Home RALLYSTAR ARTICLES Motorsport Stories

With one stage left to be run, Johnny Gemmell/Drew Sturrock in S2000 the Castrol Toyota Auris was still leading the VW Rally in Port Elizabeth with a time of 96:36.5. Second in a S2000 BP VW Polo was Enzo Kuun/Guy Hodgson 5.7 seconds behind Gemmell. Third was the other S2000 BP VW Polo of Jannie Habig/Ralph Pitchford 13.6 seconds behind Kuun.

Conrad Rautenbach/Peter Marsh in a S2000 Ford Fiesta had fallen back to 4th overall after suffering a puncture. He was 22.5 seconds of Habig's pace. Rautenbach started the event this morning like a man possessed and won the first two of the five stages of the day, before a puncture to the left rear wheel put an end to his challenge.

With one 1.29 spectator stage still to be run at Kings Beach, the stage looks set for Johnny Gemmell to win the event with Enzo Kuun second. If Gemmell wins and Kuun stays second they will be tied at the top of the championship log with 88 points each.Habig will remain third on the points log with 72 points.

In 5th position was Charl Wilken in the Basil Read Bizhub Ford Fiesta followed by Visser du Plessis in a Pirtek sponsored Toyota Auris.
