Sasol today (Friday, 4 March) announced that it has become the naming broadcast sponsor of SABC 3’s 2003 Formula One programmes and a new show, which will cover this year’s Sasol DualFuel S.A. Rally Championship, to be known as “Sasol Rally Scene”.

The F1 television sponsorship begins with this weekend’s Brazilian Grand Prix at the Interlagos circuit. Sasol Oil’s General Manager: Technology, Dr. Johan Botha, will be a studio guest when the race coverage commences at 20h30 on Sunday evening.

“Sasol Rally Scene” will be broadcast directly after Saturday F1 Qualifying transmissions on SABC 3. It will incorporate short highlights of the eight rounds of the national rally championship and, in particular, have a strong “rallying education” theme.

The latter component will include behind the scenes on how rallies are run, how to become involved as a competitor or official and profiles on the emerging and experienced personalities involved in the sport in South Africa.

The “Sasol Rally Scene” (13 minutes per programme) broadcast schedule will soon be announced.

According to Sasol Oil Managing Director, Hannes Botha, “Sasol’s sponsorship of these two high-performance sport shows on SABC 3 fits perfectly with the intrinsic values and advantages of Sasol’s fuel and lubricant products. Sasol DualFuel and our wide variety of lubricants are renowned for their performance attributes and, furthermore, the rally television show sponsorship synergises with “Sasol Soccer Scene”, the weekly SABC1 programme dedicated to the coverage of South African soccer”.

Sasol is the official sponsor of the South African under-23 National team “Amaglug-glug” who have qualified for the All Africa Games to be held in Nigeria in October this year.

Success for the team at this tournament will be important in Amaglug-glug’s quest to qualify, via further matches against African under-23 teams, for the 2004 Olympic Games in Greece.

The Sasol Group of Companies is also one of the official sponsors behind the NOCSA (all disciplines) team that will represent this country in Athens next year.
