May your Xmas be a breeze!
At this time of the year one cannot help but be nostalgic. So many things happened although the older you get, the less it feels you achieved. You look back over a year, you do see progress and you know you have done your share and really worked hard, but it still seems sort of empty? There is not a hell of a difference between 2002 that was and 2003 that still is.

“Next year will be better” is the standard thought throughout December, while November gave way to the – “hell it’s the end of the year already, next month is December” – feeling. October is described in Afrikaans as “die mooiste, mooiste maand” and everybody under 50 seems to be walking around with sexual intent. The birds are building nests; the bees are stinging the dogs, kids, and everyone else, while the hijackers are wearing floral shirts and balaclavas and the world is getting ready for the next baby boom.

and filled with good grip for any enjoyable action.
We can continue down the line to September etc and will in the end show you why the year feels quite empty – simply because except for October nothing seems to be done.

You will be a normal average South-African if you stopped doing some of the following things during the 2003: Reading the newspapers, watching TV news, Maak ‘n Las, Egoli (never began – thank goodness), Frik se Fokus, Not another word or two (bless their simple souls), stopped listening to Jacaranda news because of the added “interesting” commentary at the end of each sentence – sheesh! – stopped going to Warmbaths for the Sunday, Babsfontein many years ago.(Remember when Babsfontein used to have a Big Wheel and merry go round? (Then you are over 45)

Did new things start forming part of your life? – the only thing that seems to be happening more frequently as you get older is the fact that you need to attend a funeral of a friend almost every month. Scary isn’t it?

Then on the other hand we still enjoy a reasonably comfortable life in South-Africa. The odds that you will win the lotto is 13million to one, but you still have a good chance to be hijacked – about 2:1 odds, a 100% chance to be caught in a speed trap, and a 100% not to have to pay the fine when you go to court, or even before that when you offer a R100 bribe. Due to inflation a R100 is now the going rate.

More about all this later this year, of course we are going to start reporting full steam after Xmas and I am happy to announce that we have been contracted by the Proudly South-African Nissan Hardbody Dakar team to send out the sms messages on the Dakar.

So, if you have not yet registered to receive the RallyStar® sms service – now is the time!

May all of you enjoy that special feeling Xmas should bring on your house, your family and friends. May you enjoy every moment of it, and may you be protected wherever you go.

Best wishes to all of you

    Leon Botha and family.
