Rally Events Photos Competition

Ceres Rally
author: Patrick Vermaak
Our sincere sympathy is extended to rallyist, Charl Strydom and family. The family lost their daughter, Isabel, in a tragic vehicle accident on Friday evening. With the funeral set for Wednesday afternoon Charl has decided not to withdraw his car from the coming Ceres Players Rally as his greatest support came from his daughter, and as tribute to her enthusiasm Pierre Goosen has been asked to step in as driver for this event. The former WP class champion driver created the Sabre Paints class A6 VW Golf CSL 1600 and have been maintaining it since Charl took over the driving duties. The yellow star on the car will be in honour of Isabel.

Another withdrawal is the Team React class A6 CPMCC Toyota Corolla RXi 1600 of Andy Haigh-Smith and Gerald Brace. This team rolled on the recent Total Rally of SA and there simply is not enough hours left in the week to have their car repaired in time.

With Jean-Pierre Damseaux and Richard Behm concentrating on their national campaign the local scene have lost two regional champions, but hopefully we might gain a new champion by the end of 2004.

To reach the Players Club start and finish venue in Ceres simply enter the town from Mitchells Pass, continue straight down the main road and turn left at the second set of robots. Last road to right, turn right and approximately 300m later turn right again.

Weather looks set to be fine with a chilly 2 degrees Celsius in the morning improving to 24 during the day. Perfect spectating conditions!
