What's more the additional length has been gained without distorting the proportions of the car, since it is cleverly incorporated into the rear doors instead of the "B" pillars.
The longer wheelbase improves ride comfort and serves to give the rear-seat passengers even more legroom (+89 mm) and space inside the car. The extra seating comfort comes together with self-levelling pneumatic suspension on the rear wheels fitted as standard.
From a visual perspective, the Li is further distinguished from the "standard" 745i by chrome inserts in the bumpers as well as chrome inserts that follow the entire roof-line.
In addition, for South African 745Li models, the standard multi-spoke wheels arefitted with 245/50 R 8J x 18 inch tyres. If the optional 19 inch star-spoke alloys are chosen, the tyres are mixed sizes.
Please note that if 19 inch wheels are ordered, a full sized spare wheel with the same dimensions as the front wheels will be supplied (9J x 19 245/45 R19).
The interior has also been altered to maximise the benefit of the extra space.
The rear seat has a centre armrest come console, and the rear seats are electrically adjustable and have a memory function. The adjustment range includes backrest rake, seat height, as well as adjustable headrests with side supports (reminiscent of aircraft seats).
Second phone
There's also a second cordless phone handset in the rear console. Electrically operated side and rear roller blinds are also provided.
The cabin is filled with all the luxury trappings you could ever wish for ranging from doors that automatically close themselves to a fully automatic climate control system, and not forgetting the Logic 7 stereo system with surround sound. The 745Li comes as standard with Nasca leather and matt cherry wood trim. High-gloss ash grain wood trim is offered as an extra-cost option.
The long wheelbase BMW Li is powered by the same 245kW V8 engine as fitted to the 745i, featuring fully variable intake manifold, continuous adjustment of camshafts (Bi-VANOS) and inlet valves (Valvetronic).
Claimed verall fuel consumption is 11.2 litres/100km. The engine is mated to a standard six-speed auto box which features a sequential manual mode, and top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h.
The BMW 745Li retails for R845 000 and will be joined during the first quarter of next year a V12-powered, 300kW flagship, the 760Li.
Unique features on the 745iL include:
Electrically operated rear side roller blinds, (rear side window as well as side vent window).
Automatically dipping door mirrors, including electrical folding.
Electrical adjustment with memory for rear comfort seats via central console. Adjustment range includes backrest rake, seat height, as well as adjustable headrests with side supports, (reminiscent of aircraft seats).
Second cordless phone handset in rear console. Rear passengers can use separate SIM cards to make calls without the driver having access to the numbers. Each phone can have a different number but cannot be called at the same time.

Rear air conditioning, complete with a cooling box (temporarily delayed), exclusive to the Li models, enables the passengers at the rear to create their very own individual climate zone. Additional vents and controls in the rear roof-liner ensure swift cooling where the highest temperatures are likely to be felt. Price: R24 000
Rear Monitor with TV and DVD Changer (6-discs) in luggage compartment. The 16.5 cm (diagonal) flat-screen rear monitor is positioned between the front seats. It features automatic contrast regulation depending on sunlight intensity and can be stowed away when not in use. Price not yet available.
The BMW 745Li carries a price tag of R845 000.
Included in the selling price of all BMWs is a standard 5 year /100 000km Motorplan maintenance contract. which covers all service, maintenance and repairs resulting from normal wear and tear, excluding tyres, fuel and top-up oil.
The contract distance can be extended up to 200 000km, dependent on individual needs.
Comprehensive back-up service is also provided to BMW customers through the BMW dealer network and the BMW call centre in case of an accident, breakdown, theft or any emergency.
Free roadside assistance, tow-in, emergency medical assistance, accommodation and car hire will be provided if required.
