SUBARU BRUMA - NOW INCLUDES BULLETIN ONE
author: Leon Botha
Believe it or not, but it is that time of the year again when you have to complete the first entry form for the 2010 rally season!
The first round of the Northern Regions Rally Championship will kick off with the 2010 Subaru Bruma Rally on the 20th of February.
The event will once again be held in the Belfast area and last year if you remember it was a bit of a wet, muddy and water splashed affair. "Luckily" this year all the experts on the weather patterns predicted that the "Demoina Effect" will cause severe draughts!
Needless to say after these predictions many farmers planted seed that are supposed to be more draught-resistant and since then it did not stop raining! Well at least not in the Bapsfontein area where the Rallystar Motorsport Academy is situated!
Callie van der Merwe and Elvene Coetzee won the 2009 Subaru Bruma Belfast Rally last year in the "late" Nissan Exa, with Christo and Rene Coetzee second in the diesel Golf (where is that car?) and Jose de Gouveia and Armand du Toit in 3rd spot.
Natie Booysen showed early pace in that Escort 1600 while Eric Storbeck took the early season lead in S1 in the Golf.

The event drew 35 entries last year and we all hope that that will at least be the case again this year.
The stages on the event will be around 100kms in total and it should be a good opportunity for everyone to shake off the cobwebs.
Rallystar will be offering an open day club Rallysprint on the 6th of February 2010 to give you a chance to test your car and get yourself sharpened up to give it a go on the 20th in Belfast!
RALLY ROUTE NOTES for Regional Rallies
As you all know I took over the task to produce the Route Notes for the Northern Regions championship last year and as a token of goodwill and to help the regional teams get into the swing of things I kept the price as low as I could irrespective of how many competitors bought the notes.
I have no option but to put the price up slightly this year and the notes will be available at only R495 per set. This is an increase of only R100 on last year which I truly believe is fair.
We will this year not print any extra sets of notes and will only work on order. Last year we had problems due to late entries that took notes and we had to produce some extra sets at the last moment. This year if you have not ordered - you will have a bit of a "blind" feeling again.
It is great to be able to say that about 97% of all competitors used the Rallystar Route Notes last year and that the finishing rates went up and accidents and incident numbers down considerably.

NAVIGATION COURSE
If you are interested to do the latest course on Route Note Navigation please look at the dates and let us know when will suit you best.
Rallystar Motorsport Academy will present a special navigation course for both national and regional navigation on either the 30th or 31st January or both days depending on the demand. Please indicate which day will suit you best.
The navigation course will include theory as well as practical in-car training plus driver and navigator practice "test runs" over the specialist navigation course at the Rallystar Motorsport Academy facility.
I cannot emphasize the importance of the correct use of the Route Notes enough. It is in some cases really shocking to listen to the 'misinterpretation' of the notes by both driver and navigator.
You have to understand that if you do not understand the meaning and use of EVERY call correctly you will not really benefit from the notes. If the navigator sits there and reads the notes without any rhythm of feeling - the driver will have no use for them and may just as well drive on the arrows that are still standing up by the time they get there.
I cannot use a better example than the current national championship team of Hergen Fekken and Pierre Aries who managed to turn the use of route notes into an advantage from the beginning. The reason was that they realised that this was the equaliser and that the correct interpretation would give them an advantage over those who thought they knew how to use the notes and get them on par with those who knew the stages by heart due to experience.
If the calls come at the correct moment, and at a rate that synchronises with the driver's ability to remember and interpret the calls - you will not believe the improvement in self-confidence and with that of course the step up in speed and ability.
This is a once off offer at R500 per person for those who would like to attend the course.
The course will start at 09h00 and we will be finished by around 16h00.
If only the navigator attends (something we do not recommend) he/she will be slotted in with other drivers and also our own instructors during the practical training. If the team attend they will be able to do some extra runs and practise more than if the navigator has to wait for his or her turn in another car.
The track will be smooth enough for standard road cars to be used.
