In 2008 Andreas Mikkelsen became the youngest driver to ever score a World Rally Championship point, and now his big break came when M-sport agreed to support him in seven rounds of the IRC Challenge in a Ford Fiesta S2000.
I wondered who would step into the hot shoes left standing by Mikko Hirvonen after he won the Monte Carlo and have to agree that Mikkelsen is a good choice.
He will start his campaign on Rallys d'Italia Sardinia in June and ill also compaign in Ypres, Barum, Asturias, Sanremo Scotland and Cyprus before the end of the year.
Competing on seven rounds ensures Mikkelsen the best possible chance of challenging for this year's IRC title in the Fiesta.
Rally Sweden will be Mikklesen's debut run in the S2000 Fiesta where he will also attempt to bag an S2000 WRC podium to prepare for the intended IRC podium finishes later on.
Considering this decision for a while I wondered if we may be writing about Latvala's replacement at the end of 2010? Could easily be if this Latvala does not pick up the level of his act?
