WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH.......
author: Leon Botha
The RFS A-TEAM - most of thise who did play a role in the happening of this great venture!
Rallying is enjoying the new and spectacular presence of the M-Sport Ford which introduced a new era for S2000 and we are all sitting up waiting for more action now that the second Ford of Charl Wilken will be testing the mettle of all around it!

Off-road on the other hand experienced a bit of a slump when Nissan for reasons only known to them decided to withdraw from the sport in favour of ...What?

Be that as it may - the slump did not last long and Ford pulled of a long coming albeit a bit unexpected win on the last event - boom! New interest.
Yep, and everything actually works!

The dust over that surprise hardly settled when last night a large group of supporters and enthusiasts of the RFS Racing Team were treated not only on dinner and the best Malva Pudding I have ever tasted - and for those of you who do not know that - I am supposed to be a sort of a master blaster in the cooking department? Haven't receive a Michelin award yet but I am sure Yokohama will have a look at my application if they taste some of my fish and prawn dishes?

With the taste and that day after longing for more Off-Road Malva lingering in my mouth I sat here this morning looking through some of the pictures I took from RFS' new release last night and please believe me when I say the pictures do not do justice to the effort behind the new BMW X3 SP Production vehicle - I am not telling you a lie.

Chris du Plooy - CEO of the RFS group of companies are serious about this project and if this project goes as his companies did with him at the steer - all I can say is that I expect the Off-Road commission will take a serious dive into their rule books sooner than later.

Dr Hannes Grobler listening to the young ladies heartbeat and declared "everything sounds fine and she will be expecting a few wins soon!"
Notwithstanding the fact that the RFS Beemer had to forfeit its superior independent rear suspension for a mean mother solid axle - because the rules say so - it will still have the benefit of (with respect) better engineering where it comes to balance and handling - while it will use the X5 3 litre twin turbo engine with the 39mm restrictor well enough to become a serious pain in the Off-road production car ass!

The RFS car is not on Dakar spec - for those of you who like me did not follow the development closely and that is why the price of the car - although still somewhat above my "opportunity to make a come-back" level, will suit the pockets of the European enthusiasts better than even Chris suspect!

Why do I say this?

Chris du Plooy did not spend a few million to park the impressive car at his even more impressive offices next to 4x4 Mega World where you should make a turn if you are anything into off-road or adventure - he instigated the building and development of this car with a business in mind.
Nothing to be ashamed off! Looks, sex-apeal and much more!

So - don't be surprised if you see a few of these BMW's ruining the fun for the rest wider that South Africa very soon!

May the god's of motorsport send us a few more such enthusiasts with the knowledge, means and financial ability to grow motorsport in South Africa!

Good luck to everyone involved in this team and may your wildest dreams come true!

I have an idea that it will?

Nice to look at even when she passes you!
The BMW will be in action this weekend during the Sugar Belt 400 when Chris du Plooy and Theuns van Rensburg will have the opportunity to do a bit of a shake down of the vehicle and see where they need to do more development and ....well given half the chance they may even upset a few applecarts?
