Zimbabwean, Conrad Rautenbach and his co-driver, Peter Marsh, opened the second day'/s proceedings on the VW Rally in Port Elizabeth with a convincing win on stage 7. In the process Rautenbach in his Class S2000 Ford Fiesta, also moved up one position on the rally's points log. He is now in 5th position having overtaken Mark Cronje/Robert Paisley in the S2000 Castrol Toyota Auris who has moved to 6th.
Rautenbach also started the first day with a win, but an encounter with a fence, affected his rhythm for the rest of the day and he finished in 6th position.
The event is still being led by the S2000 Castrol Toyota Auris crew of Johnny Gemmell/Drew Sturrock, but Jannie Habig/Ralph Pitchford in a S2000 BP VW Polo, is now in second place 8.4 seconds behind Gemmell and 10.3 seconds ahead of his team mate, Enzo Kuun/Guy Hodgson, who is now lying third after finishing in second position overnight.
Hein Lategan/Johan van der Merwe are still in 4th position 15 seconds behind Kuun, followed by Mark Cronje in a Castrol Toyota Auris in 6th position.
The competitors will do five stages today of which four will be repeats from yesterday before the event ends at Kings Beach early this afternoon. The VW Rally is the 5th round of the Sasol South African National Rally Championship.
