FIM AFRICA - AFRICA'S BEST MOTOCROSS RIDERS IN ACTION

The best motorcycle riders on African soil will be in action during the FIM African Motocross Cup of Nations, which will take place at Dirt Bronco, Krugersdorp on 28 and 29 August 2010.
This prestigious event is a continental championship between African countries and is classified by the world controlling body of motorcycling, the Federation Internationale Motocyclisme (FIM), as an international race.
No less than thirteen countries, which comprise Algeria, Angola, Kenya, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda Zambia, Zimbabwe and of course the hosts, South Africa, will be competing for the honor of being called Africa’s best Motocross nation. A total of 240 riders are expected.
The structure of the event will see both teams and individuals competing on the international stage in 6 separate classes.
Spectator tickets will be available from Computicket from Monday 26 July and cost R60 for adults and R30 for children u/12. The price of the ticket is for both days, including the practice day (Saturday, 28 August) and race day (Sunday, 29 August).
The South African Team for the six classes has been announced.
They are: 50cc: Cayle Dormehl, Regan Wasmuth, Grant Hutton, Jaden Whiley and Cameron Durow. The 65cc class riders are: Bevan Potgieter, Jaydon Proctor, Ethan Boshi, Marcus Phelps and Luke McClelland.
MX Lites: Calvin Vlaanderen, Matthew Malan, Nicholas Adams, Travis Teasdale, Trustan Purdon.
MX 125cc: Brendon Fleming, Meiring Vermeulen, Erhard Pajweski, Michael Parkinson, Matthew Beers.
MX1: Wyatt Avis, Richard van der Westhuizen, Lloyd Vercueil, Brad Purchase, Ian Topliss.
MX 2: Damon Strydom, Anthony Raynard, Wesley de Jager, Sasha Naudé, Ross Branch.
Hutton who will line up on the 50cc startline was a National Champion in 2009.
The real action will be in the MX 1 and MX 2 classes. Wyatt Avis is back in South Africa after riding in World Motocross Grands Prix for the last 5 years takes on multiple SA Champion Richard van der Westhuizen, current FIM Africa Brad Purchase and National title holders Vercueil and Topliss.
In the MX 2 class, multiple FIM Africa winner, Ross Branch, the South African team captain, heads up a very prestigious 5 man team, comprising Strydom, Raynard, de Jager and Naudé – all previous National Championship title holders.
South Africa is the favourite to retain its title earned in Namibia last year and it is expected that a South African rider will take top honours in each of the classes.
