KUUN WINS TOUGH OSRAM

The 2007 Sasol SA Rally champ[ions, Enzo Kuun/Guy Hodgson, in a Class S2000 BP VW Racing Polo, has won the 2010 Osram Rally that finished in Barkley East this afternoon. He won it with a total time of 85 minutes and in the process is once again the sole leader in the championship stakes. Kuun was embroiled in a day long battle with his team mates, Hergen Fekken/Pierre Arries, but in the end beat them by 23.7 seconds.
The eventful rally was shorted to seven of the eight stages after a serious accident on stage two at the start delayed the event by more than an hour. Most of the competitors would have had to finish the event in the dark in the mountains if the last stage had been run.
Third overall was the Zimbabwean Ford Focus pairing of Conrad Rautenbach/Peter Marsh 43.6 seconds behind Fekken, followed by Jannie Habig/Douglas Judd in another BP VW Class S2000 Polo. Judd has come out of retirement to navigate for his former partner on this and the following event as Habig’s regular co-driver, Ralph Pitchford has off-road commitments to meet.
Johnny Gemmell/Drew Sturrock in a Castrol Class S2000 Toyota Auris finished 5th overall after losing a lot of time on the first stage as a result of a misfire and a puncture. At the start of the rally, Gemmell was jointly first with Kuun in the race for the championship. It was not a very good day for Toyota Motorsport.
The Osram was round six of the Sasol SA National Rally championship. The next event will be held in Cape Town in September.
