Each entrant had three opportunities to set a top speed over the 800m strip and some truly impressive speeds were recorded during the event .

Thirty seven motorcycles participated and as expected they set the highest speeds with Abdul Osman, Suzuki Hayabusa 1300, and Ebbie Abrahams, Kawasaki 1200, the class of the field with speeds of 272km/h . Eighty three cars provided the big crowd with plenty of entertainment and it was the superbly prepared 1962 replica Lotus 23 2.0 Turbo of former Clubmans racer, Phillip Smit, that posted the highest speed of 230km/h .

M3 Power
Second fastest car for the day was the BMW M3 of Charlie Ebrahim on 220km/h and third went to the very impressive turbocharged and NOS injected VW Golf IV of Nizaam Esa .

No less than thirty seven local “racers” took to the strip with some very interesting, if not impressive, machinery . Local oval track legend, Anton Tallie, settled a personal score with his son, Antonie, in two very impressive AC Cobra replicas . The 302 Ford of Anton quicker off the line but the 351 Windsor of Antonie ruled supreme above 160km/h . Jimmy Green and Paul Brand provided a lighter side to proceedings by entering their respective ‘bakkies”. Jimmy managing 158km/h in his V6 Isuzu and Paul getting up to 144km/h in his V6 Nissan Hardbody . Just has to be the gearing ! Erik Mouton and Gerhard Lampbrechts also tackled each other in V8 powered “bakkies” with Lampies pipping Erik by 2km/h in his Isuzu V8 .

That immaculate Alfa on the Startline
In sheer looks few would argue that the immaculate Alfa Romeo GTV 3.0 V6 24v of Moeweeb Fataar looked great with only one car as competition . Exec 1 was absolutely stunning in black and the Audi S4 Turbo 1.8 of Executive Decisions owner, André Johnson, certainly deserved all the attention it received . Partner, Stefan Nel, was present in Exec 2, a very neat 1996 Audi Quattro S2 2.3 Turbo . Attractive blond Erica Erasmus, ruined a number of frail male ego’s by posting a 206km/h in her impressive Chevrolet Lumina SS 5.7 V8, equal fifth fastest speed of the day !

... and the Blond in the background?

Raymond Elder was present in his very impressive ex-Nic de Waal Fiat Uno Turbo rally car and 206km/h had the bigger cars take serious notice of the Flamingo’s Disco Langebaan sponsored pocket rocket . The NOS assisted Nissan Skyline 3.0 of John Brussel always impresses and the 5.7 V8 powered Chevrolet Commodore of Elias de Kock attracted much attention . The normally aspirated VW Golf 1800 of local driver, Andre du Plessis, in his Ford Fiesta impressed with 177km/h whilst the quickest normally aspirated 1600 was the Mazda Rustler of Zaheed parker on 162km/h . Clint Walmsley was the class of the 1300 field with a fine 152km/h in his Opel Corsa Lite.
