SUCCESSFUL WEEKEND FOR TEAM FORD RACING

The weekend was a tough one, with some fierce competition, but ended with the event culminating in a Ford Racing one – two in the final race of the day. Gary Formato finished on the podium in each of the four races, but it was his race win which has kept him in the championship lead.
“I am pleased by our consistency this weekend and believe that having taken at least one race win in each of the seven WesBank Super Series rounds, bodes well for our championship ambitions,” commented Formato.
The 2011 championship is coming down to the wire and the team decided that entering a third BP / Castrol Ford Focus ST at the event would boost their chances of stealing valuable points from their Volkswagen and Opel rivals. With this in mind, the team added local lady-racer Andrea Bate into their already impressive driver line-up.
“Andrea has really impressed us this weekend, earning 20 championship points, taking a podium finish, placing second overall for the day and being named as the Driver of the Day, all in her first outing in the car! We are pleased by her inclusion in the Ford Racing team,” explained team driver, Shaun Duminy.
Duminy, who is currently placed fourth in the championship standings, continued to haul in the points this weekend, closing the deficit between himself and Volkswagen driver, Gennaro Bonafede by six points.
“I would really like to thank the team for giving me this opportunity. The Focus ST is an amazing piece of machinery and I enjoyed every second behind the wheel. I am ecstatic with the weekend’s results,” enthused Bate.
The team is looking forward to their home ground advantage with the next round of the championship taking place at Zwartkops on 5 November 2011.
