Ecclestone wants a nailbiter

Bernie Ecclestone hopes World Champions Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull don't have it all their own way this coming season.

Rather than last season's outcome, which saw Vettel and Red Bull dominate with 11 victories, F1's commercial supremo, perhaps predictably, wants a nailbiter of the kind seen two years ago.

On that occasion, four drivers had a chance of winning the World Championship heading into the final race, with Vettel eventually taking the spoils in Abu Dhabi.

"I hope not but they are up there," the 81-year-old told Salzburger Nachrichten when asked whether Vettel and Red Bull might run away from the field once again.

"I would much prefer a World title fight that ran until the end of the season.

"But the TV viewers care more about the tension in the race than the state of the Championship."

Asked for his thoughts on Mercedes, McLaren and Ferrari, Ecclestone said: "I would be surprised if Mercedes do not win a race this year.

"At McLaren, (Jenson) Button has been the surprise, he stood out against (Lewis) Hamilton.

"At Ferrari, I can only hope for a significant improvement. (Fernando) Alonso is super talented, he should be in a perfect car."
